Mine Approval Under the Environmental Assessment Act
In 1997 Sierra Legal Defence Fund EAGLE commenced judicial review proceedings that eventually succeeded in overturning a Provincial decision to approve a project to establish a copper mine. The permit was overturned on the basis that the information before the Project Committee relating to the impacts of the project on Aboriginal Rights and wildlife was inadequate, and that the Province filed to adequately consult with the First Nations involved in the case.
